So, I've been experimenting with making cheap apple cider. I tried this because I wondered what would happen when I combined hops to a cider and it turned out to be a must have by all who tried it.
Need a cheap and easy beverage, in between brews, and don't want to pull out the kettle this weekend? Mix a cider!
5 gal 100% Apple Juice (I got mine from Shop 'N Save, $1.87 per 2 qt.) 1 oz Cascade hop pellets (I should've put mine in a hop ball/sock to reduce particles in the cider) 1 package Champagne dry yeast
Mix everything in a fermentor and let sit for about 3 weeks or until you can't stand it any longer.
Tastes like a delicious mix of apple and citrus fruits. Smells like Cascade hops. Light and delicious!

You didn't have any problem with preservatives?

No, the trick is you have to buy the 100% Apple Juice and check to make sure there is nothing else in there. The problem with buying cider from the store is often they add sodium benzoate or some other preservative, but with the cheap Shop n' Save brand Apple Juice they usually don't do that.
