The Brewminati will be having a friendly competition for members only to be held at its September meeting. Scoring will follow BJCP style guidelines. The winner will have represent the club in a selected beer competition and have his or her entry fee covered by the club. You will need to bring 2 bottles for the tasting at the in-house competition, and then be able to supple two more bottles if you win and move on to a real competition. September's in-house beer competition style will be Brown Ales (American Amber Ale/American Brown Ale) with the winning beer being sent to a beer competition in Michigan.

Are there any requirements as to what type of grains/hops/yeasts we are supposed to use? Or is it open for interpretation?

Sorry to take so long to respond, I saw that you already made something, but yes...it's open to "interpretation"!

I just pitched my yeast, but I completely forgot to include the Rye flakes in my recipe which is throwing my Original Gravity and Estimated ABV outta wack. Oh well, it'll just be a little weaker in terms of side-affects while enjoying!

I thought the beer was to be judged at the September meeting? Can we get a clarification on this?

My apologies, I had August AND September in the original post; it's September's meeting.

Aye, it is the September meeting. And as far as ingredients and profile of the beer it isn't limited at all. Just do try to adhere as much as possible to BJCP style guidelines for the beer because that is what it will be judged on at a sanctioned competition. As I have found through previous experience, brewing a phenomenal beer is only half the battle if it doesnt adhere to guildelines. They will dock you immensely for not being "to style"
